The City formed after the demise of Aussie pop/rock legends Men at Work in 1985 by keyboardist/songwriter/producer Peter McIan. In the band was also former Men At Work drummer Jerry Speiser, guitarist Stewart Mathis (previously with American high-tech AOR'sters Life By Night), Wade Biery (bass) and Billy Trudel on lead vocals.

Basically a studio project, the band recorded one solid pop rock/AOR crossover album titled "Foundation" that was released by Chrysalis in 1986. With a sound very much in the same tradition as bands like Mr. Mister and Starship the record produced one minor hit in "Planets In Motion" that along with "Walkaway" was also released as singles.
