Gerard was an AOR/Pop rock band out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, based around siblings Chris and Greg Gerard. Their debut LP, simply titled ”Gerard”, was released in 1984 on the band’s own label ”CGR Productions”, consisting of six original songs. At the time of the release, the band was made up of Chris Gerard (vocals), Greg Gerard (vocals, keyboards), Keith Montross (keyboards, drums), Ricky Niez (bass) and Mark Lamar (guitar).
Recorded at Midwest Recorders Ltd. in Milwaukee and Breezeway Studios in Waukesha, the record was a fair regional success with the single ”Let Her Run” being played frequently on local Midwest radio stations such as WLUM, WRKR and WMGF. The band also did extensive touring, doing club dates all across the Midwest and Pacific Northwest, which one local newspaper article described as ”phenomenally successful”.
”We have positive things to say to people, even if a song is about love gone wrong”, said Chris Gerard in the same article. ”You don’t have to make it such a heavy thing to get people to watch and listen.”
In 1985, the single ”Feel Like Letting Go/Crusin’” was released showcasing a similar pop/rock sound as on the LP, but with Greg Gerard on lead vocals.
Nowdays Greg Gerard works as operations director for the Beloit International Film Festival and operates his own recording studio called ”Studio G”. After Gerard he has had a successful career as a songwriter and producer on the Billboard charts and has had his songs placed on soundtracks in both motion pictures and television programs.
